Anne an award winning French writer in a male dominated profession. Her nomadic childhood and journalism career sent her on discovery journeys of French islands and their insular communities. A connection so deep and profound to the islanders’ story gave Anne inspiration for her creative writing. At the time, journalism was a male dominated field. In spite of the struggles and discrimination she was subject to, Anne persevered and found her voice through pen and paper as a revered novelist. The painting L'AMOUR DE CALVI represents the island influence and the success of overcoming obstacles, to now rest ashore and enjoy the view of where you have sailed and made waves.
Simone was a beautiful African women who's strength and beauty caught the eye of a decorated military man. This was her introduction to a foreign European upper class life. Soon after Simone and her child were abandoned in France. Like many women do, she lived the rest of her life in the shadows. Her son honors his mother's life as he rediscovers his father's ancestral lands and both of their rightful heritage. The models in the painting TIS THE SEASON lived a life in the shadows, as coat hangers do in the eyes of the fashion world. This painting is part of a series in homage to them, and the renowned sketch artist Kenneth Paul Block who first took notice of these women in the heyday of the 1960's fashion industry. Tisha Balesi Wood's inspiration is to give the models a face, a soul and honor the flowers on the runway.
Quinn is an extraordinary woman who happens to be a revered mountain climber. Today, Quinn is on the most challenging ascent of her life. Just as wild horses running through the canyon, Quinn never fought with nature and the harsh conditions that surrounded her; instead she took them as a natural part of her life. She inspires us to embrace the adventure of life with its challenges and beauty. Her unstoppable spirit is her gift and her love of nature inspires all. The painting SNOW DRIFTERS and Quinn share the same adventurous spirit and love of nature. We believe in Quinn as she believes in the spirit of mother earth.
Nelly, the cultivator of beauty, grace and forgiveness. Nelly was born and raised in aristocracy during an era of opulence and wealth in the French west Indies. She traveled back to the motherland post-war where the life of family and friends was less than fortunate. Her experience with this cultural shock was eye opening and soulful. Nelly dedicated the rest of her life to sharing her wealth, teaching strong values, cultivating the arts, and bringing light to humanity. The painting L'AUBE represents this travel to the motherland, where it is up to us to find our home after the storm.
Magda, the survivor with more to give than meets the eye. Magda was a little girl who overcame the nightmare of walking out the gates of Auschwitz at the age of 9. Heartbreak and tragedy were no match to this little girl’s courage. Her gift to the lives she touched was to see past the hardships and embrace the beauty in life, and to share the strength of her love. The painting ENTREE CHEZ MOI is an analogy for Magda's attitude towards life, welcoming Strangers as new friends and finding the light within each of us
Marie, elegant, graciouse, brilliant, loving and fierce in her faith. Devotion to family and friends could not be measured. Those whom are blessed with a Marie in thier life will stand proud and humble to its beauty.
